What should I expect from an Osteopathy consultation?
The start of the consultation will involve being asked questions about your complaint and medical history. Then an examination will be performed, where you will be instructed to do specific movements and tests to identify the cause of your complaint. Once a diagnosis is identified, a targeted treatment will be done for your specific complaint and be tailored to your individual needs. After the treatment, you will be provided with exercises that you can do to help assist you in achieving your health goals, in conjunction with education and a management plan.
DO I NEED A DOCTOR’S REFERRAL?
No you don’t! Osteopaths are primary health practitioners and therefore you can come to the clinic without a refferal. However, if you have a chronic health condition, you may be eligible to be treated under a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan. This needs to be referred by your GP prior to coming to the clinic in order for the consultation to be covered by medicare.
Can I use my private health insurance?
Osteopathy is apart of the "extras" component of most major private health insurance plans. This means that if Osteopathy is included on your plan, at the time of payment there is an instant rebate and you will only be required to pay the gap fee. We recommend checking your policy details to see if Osteopathy is included.
Is Osteopathy covered by Medicare?
Osteopathy is covered by medicare if you are using a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan. This is created by your GP to help manage a chronic health condition. When attending Collard Osteopathy with a CDM plan, please bring your Medicare card and your referral letter for your GP. At Collard Osteopathy we bulk bill all CDM plans, so speak if you have a chronic condition, speak to your GP and ask if you are eligible for a CDM plan.
What should I wear to Osteopathy Consultations?
At Collard Osteopathy we recommend that you wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in. Depending on the injured area, during the consultation you may be asked to take off garments in order to be able to successfully examine and treat that area. This will only be done if you are comfortable with that. To ensure your comfort, draping will be done throughout the consultation and we will only do what is comfortable for you.
