Osteopathy focuses on the neuro- musculoskeletal system which consists of muscles, bones, nerves and other tissues that contribute to the body's functioning. Osteopaths provide nervous system and musculoskeletal assessments, manual therapy and exercise programs. They treat patients as a whole, not just focusing on the area of pain but the trigger and factors tinflcuening a persons injury. Osteopaths use the bio-psychosocial model to give education/advice about various factors such as lifestyle, stress, diet and ergonomics, bringing a wholistic approach to your management.

Myofascial cupping Treatment

Myofascial cupping

Myofascial cupping is a treatment method where a cup is attached to the skin, causing suction to the skin due to lack of air inside the cup. This helps to increase nutrient rich blood supply to the injured area and improve general range of motion. Usually this will result in round bruise like marks left on the skin that go away in 1-2 weeks. Myofascial cupping can be used to help with musculoskeletal pain and discomfort, headaches, asthma and sporting injuries

Dry Needling

Dry needling

Dry needling is a treatment method that uses very fine needles to target areas of the body that are in pain or have decreased function. This works through producing a reflex response that assists with nutrients being supplied to the region whilst waste products are removed. The needles can also deactivate trigger and motor points, causing improved function and decreased pain. Dry needling can also strengthen tendons and ligaments through creating a local inflammatory response.

Exercise rehabilitation

Exercise rehabilation

Exercise rehabilitation can be used to improve several key components of your health and fitness. It can focus on endurance, strength, power, mobility, building muscle and most importantly decreasing pain.

Kinesio tape

Kinesio Taping

Kinesiology tape can be used to help you with muscle pain or cramping, joint pain, poor posture and inflammation or bruising. This is achieved through three different mechanisms. Firstly the tape being stretched on the skin creates a stimulus that can help control pain responses. That same stretch can also free the different layers of skin and tissues above the target tissue so that it can move more freely. This decompression of the tissues also improves lymphatic flow to help reduce tissue inflammation and swelling.

The benefits of kinesio tape:

  • It assists to decrease pain

  • Reduces swelling and bruising

  • Provides functional support whilst allowing full range of motion

  • Reduces muscle fatigue and promotes recovery
